Corticosteroids, or commonly just referred to as steroids, are a common medication used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). But if you’re taking high doses for a long time, you may be at risk of some of the same side effects as steroid tablets. They’re mainly used for asthma, but can sometimes be helpful for people with COPD, particularly those who have asthma as well. Changes in blood sugar levels

You might be prescribed anabolic steroids for certain medical conditions. If a clinician has prescribed you anabolic steroids, they will be safe for you to take – provided you use them as directed. Increased appetite

If you think you might be addicted to anabolic steroids, you should try and see your GP. They might refer you to a specialist addiction service or a trained drugs counsellor. These services will also be able to help with advice on weaning yourself off the steroids.
